Rule clarifications
During a previous challenge by the CDC this year, there were a couple of points in the rules that were missed by many of the submitters (myself included). The first is rule #13 about the mandatory disclaimer, and the second is the use of the CDC logo not being permitted without written consent. I mainly mention this so that there is less scrambling at the end of the contest to get our submissions in compliance.
Also, since the rules mention "release of the application under an open-source software license" should we be developing the applications in a repository like github to provide the complete source code history with our submission? Do you want the source code itself as part of the submission?
Thanks for providing the API, thorough documentation, and sample code!

Is anyone going to answer these questions? I specifically need to know about the open source mentioned here.
I am waiting in order to submit my application.
Thanks

Thanks for drawing attention to some of the rules for this challenge, and sorry for the delay. We’re all for people knowing what they are getting into. You do not need to make the source code available at the time of submission, but you should be ready to do so if asked. The use of Github and other repositories would be a great way to do so, but are not required. You’re right about the use of the federal government logos or seals, and entries should refrain from using these items.
